About Me

My name is Nicky Hartigan, I am a Clinical Psychologist and founder of The Calm Clinic. Alongside my clinical work, I am an author, researcher and clinical supervisor.

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2007 and since then I have worked in senior positions in both the NHS and independent sector, supporting adults to overcome a range of emotional challenges and find inner calm.

I am chartered with the British Psychological Society and registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council.

My approach

The cornerstone of my clinical practice is a warm, genuine and non-judgmental relationship with my clients, through which difficulties can be explored, understanding can develop and inner calm can be found.

Whilst I have specialist knowledge and expertise in psychology, my clients are definitely the experts in their own unique experience and we work as a team to find the way forward.

As a Clinical Psychologist I am highly qualified and experienced in a number of evidence-based psychological therapies which I will draw from in order to meet the unique needs of each individual. I work primarily within the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy framework, incorporating Person-Centred Therapy, Mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

My approach to my work is, of course, influenced by my own life-experience and context. Through my own personal challenges, I have developed a deep appreciation of the importance of finding inner calm, no matter what circumstances life throws at us — and I would be honoured to support you to do the same.

How it works

01

Enquiry

If you are seeking or considering therapy I offer a free telephone consultation so that we can discuss your needs and how I can help.

02

Engagement

If you choose to proceed we will arrange a time to meet (currently online via video-call). This session will consist of us getting to know each other and exploring your situation in more detail. At the end, we will discuss a therapy plan outlining what you can expect to achieve, what the sessions will consist of and the number of sessions you are likely to need.

03

Therapy

Subsequent sessions, where possible, will be weekly at the same time, although where needed I will be as flexible as possible. Throughout therapy we will continuously review your progress and re-evaluate your goals so that we can ensure that you remain on track and get the best from your sessions.
